Baseball Drops Game One to Lee

PENSACOLA, Fla. — The University of West Florida fell to Lee University with a 6–3 loss at Jim Spooner Field on Friday. 

The first inning saw Lee take an early lead with a homer to right field, bringing in two runs. West Florida responded with Zack Stokes singling up the middle and then scoring on a double by Gustavo Mendez. Lee held the lead at 2-1. 

In the second inning, West Florida capitalized on an error by the Flames. Peyton Martin singled and advanced on Greg Pettay's bunt, eventually scoring on a fielder's choice by Gann Nobles. Pettay also crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Stokes, giving West Florida a 3–2 lead at the close of the second inning.

Lee added 3 runs in the fifth and their final run in the sixth to secure the win in their favor. 

Colton Dorsey started the game for West Florida, pitching 4.2 innings and allowing seven hits and five earned runs while striking out four batters. Blake Thomas pitched in relief, contributing 1.1 innings with one strikeout, allowing one run on one hit. Braden Rapp closed with a strong performance over three innings, yielding no hits or runs and striking out three. 

The Argos will take the field at 1 p.m. tomorrow to finish the series against Lee in a doubleheader at Jim Spooner Field.
