PENSACOLA, Fla. — West Florida secured an 11–1 run-rule victory over Spring Hill College on Tuesday at Jim Spooner Field.
West Florida opened the game with an early lead in the first inning.
Zack Stokes doubled to right center and later scored when Jed Jones was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Tanner Taylor then delivered a two-RBI single to left field, bringing in
Peyton Martin and
William Lybrook. The Argos led 3–0 after the first inning.
In the second inning, the Argos continued their offensive push.
Trent Kelly singled up the middle and later scored on a wild pitch. Taylor added two more runs with a single to right field, scoring Martin and Lybrook to make it 6-0.
The third inning saw
Hudson Spencer scoring after reaching base on a hit by pitch. Kelly drove Spencer home with a single to center field. The Badgers managed to get on the board in the fifth inning with an RBI single. However, the Argos responded in their half of the inning with
Jake Cooper's RBI single that brought home Stokes, making it 8–1 through five innings.
In the sixth inning, Jones scored after
Greg Pettay and Spencer advanced him with a single and a balk. Spencer's RBI single extended the lead to 9–1. The Argos added two more runs in the seventh inning.
Zack DeJesus scored on a hit by pitch, and Kelly came in on Jones' sacrifice fly.
Christian Pencek delivered a strong start for the Argos, pitching 4 innings without allowing a run while striking out two and surrendering three hits.
Brooks McDonald followed with 1 inning of relief, allowing one earned run on one hit and one walk, with one strikeout.
Blake Thomas made an impact in his inning of work, striking out three batters while giving up one hit and one walk.
Zach Nelson closed out the game by pitching a scoreless inning, issuing one walk and throwing seven strikes out of twelve pitches.
The Argos will travel to begin their series against Mississippi College on Friday, April 17 at 6 p.m.
