VALDOSTA, Ga. — The No. 1 West Florida men's tennis team defeated Lynn University 4-2 on Friday. West Florida secured four singles victories, clinching the match despite dropping the doubles point.
Lynn secured the doubles point with victories on courts two and three. At No. 2 doubles, Aymen Alimoussa and Victor Alves defeated West Florida's
Goncalo Quintela and
Rafael Sabio, 6-2. Lynn's Daniel Azar and Lennart Ostheimer followed with a 6-1 win over
Mark Neyelov and
Mateo Martinez at No. 3 doubles.
Diego Duran and
Sebastian Rondon captured a 6-3 victory for West Florida at No. 1 doubles, but it was not enough to secure the doubles point.
West Florida responded strongly in singles, beginning with Quintela's win at No. 6 singles, where he defeated Davide Cortimiglia 6-3, 7-5, leveling the overall match at 1-1. Neyelov gave West Florida a 2-1 lead with his straight-sets victory over Santino Morel, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 5 singles. Rondon extended the lead to 3-1 at No. 1 singles with a 7-5, 6-1 win against Louay Makke.
Lynn narrowed the margin with Alves's 6-2, 6-1 victory over Duran at No. 2 singles, making the dual match 3-2. However, Martinez clinched the win for West Florida with a 7-6, 6-2 triumph over Alimoussa at No. 3 singles. Sabio completed the final margin, defeating Ostheimer 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, securing a 4-2 victory for West Florida.
