It was a season to remember for University of West Florida Athletics.
The 2025-2026 athletic season has been filled with transformational moments that are reshaping the future of intercollegiate athletics at UWF. From the groundbreaking of the future Darrell Gooden Stadium to the announcement of Argos transitioning to NCAA Division I in the United Athletic Conference and Atlantic Sun Conference, this year has marked a new era for UWF.
While change was seemingly taking place around every corner one thing remained true for the Argos:
winning.
UWF Athletics completed its most successful season in program history by capturing 10 conference championships — the most ever won by the Argos in a single academic year. The previous record was eight conference titles in the 2013-2014 season. The 10 titles is also the most for an institution in GSC history.
"This historic season is a source of tremendous pride for the University," said UWF President Manny Diaz Jr. "Ten conference championships in a single year is an extraordinary achievement and a fitting milestone as we prepare for our transition to Division I athletics. The Argos have built a legacy of excellence that will continue to elevate the University and inspire our community for years to come."
Claiming double digit titles in a year is a rare feat and there was no better time to do it for UWF as it leaves a lasting imprint on NCAA Division II. "Argos on Top" as is often said.
"It's all a testament to the culture we have here at UWF," said
Dave Scott, Associate Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics. "Our coaches and staff, many of whom have been here for the majority of their careers, have rallied around our initiative of 'Building Champions for Life.' We love winning championships as it's a standard we've set here in athletics over the history of our teams. But we also love seeing our student-athletes become well-rounded individuals who will graduate from UWF and be good representatives of what it means to be an Argonaut. It's been amazing to see the success we've had in so many ways in Division II."
Since joining NCAA Division II in 1994, UWF has captured 141 conference championships as members of the Gulf South Conference and the New South Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Conference. Of those, 132 titles came in the GSC and nine were won by the women's swimming and diving program in the NSISC. No institution in GSC history has won more championships than UWF.

Additionally, 14 UWF teams advanced to NCAA postseason competition during the academic year. Six programs earned the opportunity to host NCAA Regional events in Pensacola, while baseball, men's tennis and women's soccer each secured No. 1 regional seeds.
Four teams — Baseball, Softball, Men's Golf and Men's Tennis — are still competing for an NCAA National Championship this spring.
While the Argos have now completed their final season competing in the Gulf South Conference, the legacy built by UWF Athletics will remain firmly etched throughout the conference record books for years to come.
Ten conference titles in a year is an impressive feat for any institution. For the Argos, it was a fitting final chapter to the most dominant team in Gulf South Conference history.
