UWF Tennis Cruises into National Semifinals

SURPRISE, Ariz. — The 2-seed University of West Florida men's tennis team swept the 7-seed Washburn on Thursday in the NCAA national quarterfinals in Surprise, Arizona. The Argos now advance to the NCAA national semifinal round for the first time since 2017, a season in which they won the national championship.

West Florida secured the doubles point with victories at No. 3 and No. 1 doubles. Diego Duran and Sebastian Rondon's 6-2 victory against the ninth-ranked pair of Benjamin Fock and Zino Nahirniak at No. 1 doubles, followed by Vicente Couto and Rafael Sabio won 7-5 over Yuto Miyagawa and Kilian Martinez at No. 3 doubles. Washburn took the No. 2 doubles match with Tommy Cecchetti and Pavlos Parson, defeating Mark Neyelov and Gonalo Quintela 6-4.

In singles, West Florida secured the sweep with Sabio's 6-0, 6-1 win over Zino Nahirniak at No. 4 singles and Rondon's 6-2, 6-0 victory over 43rd-ranked Pavlos Parson at No. 1 singles. This brought the running score to 3-0. The clincher came from Quintela at No. 5 singles, who defeated Yuto Miyagawa 6-2, 6-2, securing the overall win for West Florida.
