Wilson Named Director of Player Development for UWF Men’s Basketball

PENSACOLA, Fla. Quentshon Wilson has been named the Director of Player Development for the UWF men's basketball program, head coach Tanner Smith announced Thursday.

"Coach Quentshon Wilson is incredibly deserving of this opportunity," said Coach Smith. "He is an outstanding young coach who is deeply committed to both our student-athletes and the University of West Florida. His knowledge of the game, ability to connect with players, and strong ties throughout the Panhandle make him an invaluable asset to our program. Our players will benefit tremendously from his guidance, mentorship, and genuine care both on and off the court."

Wilson moves into the position after spending the past two seasons as a graduate assistant with the Argonauts. He joined the UWF coaching staff in 2024 and has assisted with player development, on-court instruction, scouting and the program's day-to-day operations.

As Director of Player Development, Wilson will continue working closely with UWF's student-athletes while helping oversee their development on and off the court. His responsibilities will include individual skill development, film study, academic and personal growth initiatives and additional support for the program's daily operations.

Before arriving at UWF, Wilson served as an assistant coach at Pensacola State College during the 2023–24 season. He helped guide the Pirates to their first winning season since 2019–20 while assisting with a defensive unit that ranked fifth nationally.

Wilson also managed the program's strength and conditioning initiatives and played a significant role in individual player development. During his time at PSC, the Pirates produced four All-Panhandle Conference selections, two All-State/Region 8 honorees and six NCAA Division I signees.

Wilson earned his bachelor's degree in business management from Pensacola State College in May 2024, and his master's degree in sports performance in May 2026.
