PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 1-ranked University of West Florida men's tennis team opened up Gulf South Conference play by defeating North Alabama 9-0 at home on Sunday afternoon. West Florida (2-0, 1-0 GSC) earns its 29
th straight conference win and extends its overall winning streak to 31.
Junior
Warren Kuhn (Johannesburg, South Africa) and senior
Elio Latella (Sydney, Australia) won at number one doubles 8-3 while junior
Kenny Brasil (Apucarana, Brazil) and sophomore
Alex Peyrot (Castelnaudary, France) won 8-3 at number two doubles. Junior
Pablo Borrero (Pereira, Colombia) and sophomore
Pablo Tellez (Bogota, Columbia/Colegio) won at number three doubles 8-2.
No. 8 Peyrot came back to beat UNA's Guillaume Dechoz at number one singles 4-6, 6-1, 10-8 after dropping the first set. Kuhn won 6-1, 6-2 at number two singles while No. 30 Brasil won 6-3, 6-0 at number three singles.
Borrero won 6-1, 6-3 at number four singles while Latella won at number five singles 6-0, 6-2. Redshirt freshman
Sebastian Sanchez (Bogota, Colombia) won 6-0, 6-1 at number six singles.
West Florida will next face a pair of top-25 opponents in Valdosta, Georgia next weekend. UWF will face No. 5 Armstrong on Saturday, February 21 at 10 a.m. ET before facing No. 13 Rollins on Sunday, February 22 at 10 a.m. ET.
