VALDOSTA, Ga. - The No. 9 West Florida baseball team hits the road to play Valdosta State in a three-game series Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 21-22. The Argonauts (7-2, 2-1) are on a two-game winning streak heading into the weekend against the Blazers (6-3, 1-2) who have lost three straight.

History of UWF and VSU
Last season, VSU came to Pensacola ranked No. 4 nationally to play No. 2 UWF. The Blazers were riding a 10-game, season-opening winning streak. UWF swept a doubleheader with 5-1 and 3-2 wins before the third game was canceled due to weather.
The Argos eliminated the Blazers from the GSC Tournament with a 15-4 win in the fourth round in the postseason.
UWF is riding an eight-game winning streak against VSU, which includes wins in the GSC Tournament in 2012 and 2014, dating back to the 2012 season.

Scouting VSU
The Blazers rotation is led by Mitchell Cody (2-0, 1.83 ERA), and the bullpen is led by Kellan Bailey (0-1, 2.32 ERA).
2014 All-GSC First team honoree Bryant Hayman leads the Blazers with a .588 batting average, three homers and 16 RBIs.
Shortstop Mike Reed and third baseman Michael Gouge are also returning all-conference honorees.

Nagem named Regional POW
Brandon Nagem was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association South Region Pitcher of the Week and the Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Week.

Nagem improved to 3-0 after extending his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 15 with a complete game, seven-inning shutout of North Alabama Feb. 14. He has yet to allow an earned run this season in 19.2 innings. Nagem allowed three hits and struck out eight last Saturday.

He is the first Argonaut to win the award since MLB draft pick Jordan DeLorenzo won it for the third time on April 16 last season.

Strasser named GSC FOW
Nic Strasser was named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week last week. He led UWF with a .571 batting average in four games. He went 8-for-14 with a double, a triple, 2 RBIs and five runs scored. The freshman slugged .786, recorded a .667 on base percentage and stole two bases.
