PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 1-ranked University of West Florida men's tennis team defeated No. 8 Saint Leo 5-4 at home on Wednesday afternoon. West Florida (11-1, 4-0 GSC) improves to 6-0 in matches against teams in the south region. UWF has now won 52 consecutive home matches against Division-II opponents.
Junior
Warren Kuhn (Johannesburg, South Africa) and senior
Elio Latella (Sydney, Australia) won at number one doubles 8-5 and extend their winning streak to eight while junior
Kenny Brasil (Apucarana, Brazil) and sophomore
Alex Peyrot (Castelnaudary, France) extended their winning streak to 11 with a 8-6 win at number two doubles.
Junior
Pablo Borrero (Pereira, Colombia) and sophomore
Pablo Tellez (Bogota, Columbia/Colegio) won at number three doubles 8-2 and extend their winning streak to eight.
No. 8 Peyrot fell at number one singles after retiring in the second set while Kuhn lost 6-4, 6-4 at number two singles.
No. 30 Brasil won at number three singles 6-3, 6-2 while Borrero fell at number four singles 6-2, 7-6. Latella fell at 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 at number five singles.
Sophomore
Douglas Boe (Vinhedo, Brazil) clinched the match at number six singles with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 victory.
West Florida will next face No. 20 Georgia College on Friday, March 20 at 9:30 a.m. CT.
