No. 2 West Florida men's tennis defeats NAIA No. 6 Xavier (La.) 9-0

Elio Latella earns 20th doubles victory of the season on senior day

RESULTS
 
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 2-ranked University of West Florida men's tennis team defeated NAIA No. 6 Xavier (La.) 9-0 at home on Sunday at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex. West Florida senior Elio Latella will be honored before the match for his contributions to the UWF tennis program. The Argonauts end the regular season with a 24-3 overall record.
 
West Florida came in at number two in the latest NCAA South Region rankings. The top two teams in the regional rankings at the end of the year will host the NCAA South Regional Championships. The NCAA DII Tennis Championships selection show will be on Tuesday, April 28 at 8:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.
 
West Florida's No. 1-ranked doubles team of junior Warren Kuhn (Johannesburg, South Africa) and senior Elio Latella (Sydney, Australia) defeated Xavier's NAIA No. 22-ranked doubles team of Manav Chakma and Tushar Mandlekar at number one doubles 8-5. With the win, Latella notches his 20th doubles victory of the season and the 72nd career doubles victory on senior day.
 
Junior Kenny Brasil (Apucarana, Brazil) and sophomore Alex Peyrot (Castelnaudary, France) won at number two doubles 8-1 while junior Pablo Borrero (Pereira, Colombia) and sophomore Pablo Tellez (Bogota, Columbia/Colegio) won at number three doubles 9-8.
 
No. 9. Peyrot defeated Xavier's NAIA No. 9-ranked singles player Kyle Montrel 6-4, 2-6, 12-10 at number one singles.
 
No. 25 Kuhn won at number two singles 6-1, 6-1 while No. 31 Brasil won 6-4, 6-0 at number three singles.
 
Latella won at number four singles 6-0, 6-4 while redshirt freshman Sebastian Sanchez (Bogota, Colombia) won his ninth straight match at number five singles by a score of 6-3, 6-1.
 
Sophomore Douglas Boe (Vinhedo, Brazil) won at number six singles 6-1, 6-2.
 
West Florida will next compete in the NCAA DII South Regional Championships on May 2-5.
