No. 3 UWF men's tennis falls to No. 4 ASU in the NCAA DII quarterfinals

West Florida falls to Armstrong State 0-5 in the quarterfinals of the NCAA DII National Championships

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The No. 3-ranked University of West Florida men's tennis team fell to No. 4 Armstrong State 0-5 in the quarterfinals of the NCAA DII National Championships on Thursday. West Florida ends the season with a 27-4 overall record.

"It's really tough after a loss like this," head coach Derrick Racine said. "Coming into the tournament we had played great all year and had big expectations to win the whole thing. I think we could've, but to win this tournament you have to have everything go your way. I thought we fought hard today."
 
West Florida's No. 4-ranked doubles team of junior Warren Kuhn (Johannesburg, South Africa) and senior Elio Latella (Sydney, Australia) fell to Damian Okrutny and Jan Porteset 8-9 (4-7) at number one doubles.
 
UWFs No. 17-ranked doubles team of junior Kenny Brasil (Apucarana, Brazil) and sophomore Alex Peyrot (Castelnaudary, France) fell to Armstrong's No. 13-ranked doubles team of Pablo Gor and Ignacio Hernandez 7-9 at number two doubles.
 
Junior Pablo Borrero (Pereira, Colombia) and sophomore Pablo Tellez (Bogota, Columbia/Colegio) fell to Luca Cerin and Otakar Lucak 6-8 at number three doubles.
 
Latella fell Hernandez at number five singles 4-6, 2-6 while No. 14 Peyrot fell to No. 7 Gor at number one singles 4-6, 4-6.
 
Latella ends his illustrious career at West Florida with 64 career singles victories and 75 career doubles victories.
