BOX SCORE HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The No. 4-ranked University of West Florida men's tennis team swept Alabama Huntsville 6-0 on the road Sunday afternoon. West Florida (4-0, 3-0 GSC) completes the weekend sweep over Gulf South Conference opponents from Alabama en route to its fourth straight win to start the season.
Junior
Pedro Roese (Novo Hamburgo, Brazil) and senior
Juan Pablo Boada (La Paz, Bolivia) defeated Noah Pring and Elliot Hopson 8-5 at number one doubles while UWF's No. 5-ranked doubles team of senior
Kenny Brasil (Apucarana, Brazil) and junior
Alex Peyrot (Castelnaudary, France) swept Brodie Holmes and Ian Wisener 8-0 at number two doubles.
Sophomore
Sebastian Sanchez (Bogota, Colombia) defeated David Cooper 6-0, 6-1 at number three singles while junior
Douglas Boe (Vinhedo, Brazil) tallied his 30
th career singles victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Murilo Basso at number four singles.
Senior
Pablo Borrero (Pereira, Colombia) won at number five singles by a score of 6-1, 6-0 while junior
Pablo Tellez (Bogota, Columbia) defeated Harrison Stone 6-2, 7-6 at number six singles.
West Florida will next face NAIA powerhouse Auburn Montgomery in the team's home opener on Tuesday, February 16 at 1 p.m. at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex. AUM finished runner-up at last year's NAIA Men's National Championship and has won nine NAIA National Championships in program history. UWF will then host GSC opponent Lee on Saturday, February 20 at 10 a.m.
