No. 4 UWF men's tennis drops first match of the season at No. 7 SLU

No. 4 West Florida falls to No. 7 Saint Leo 2-7 on the road Tuesday afternoon

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 4-ranked University of West Florida men's tennis team fell to the No. 7-ranked Saint Leo Lions 2-7 on the road Tuesday afternoon. West Florida (10-1, 5-0 GSC) drops its first match of the season and falls to 2-1 on the year against nationally ranked opponents.
 
Senior Pablo Borrero (Pereira, Colombia) and junior Pablo Tellez (Bogota, Columbia) improved to 4-0 on the year by defeating Jaime Bueno and Oskar Nurmio by a score of 8-5 at number three doubles.
 
The No. 5-ranked doubles team of senior Kenny Brasil (Apucarana, Brazil) and junior Alex Peyrot (Castelnaudary, France) dropped their first match of the season to SLU's No. 7-ranked doubles team of Alberto Barroso-Campos and Alex Theiler at number one doubles by a score of 4-8.
 
Senior Juan Pablo Boada (La Paz, Bolivia) and junior Pedro Roese (Novo Hamburgo, Brazil) fell to Francisco Aparicio and Fons Verberne by a score of 6-8 at number two doubles.
 
Boada earned his first victory over a nationally ranked opponent with a 6-4, 3-6, 11-9 win over No. 13 Theiler at number two singles. The senior improves to 8-2 this season and is now 1-1 against regionally ranked opponents.
 
No. 11 Peyrot lost his first match of the season to No. 3 Barroso-Campos by a score of 4-6, 1-6 at number one singles and now sits at 1-1 on the year against nationally ranked opponents. No. 22 Brasil fell to 6-3 on the year and 1-2 against nationally ranked opponents with a 6-3, 1-6, 0-6 loss to No. 19 Panyushkin at number three singles.
 
Sophomore Sebastian Sanchez (Bogota, Colombia) fell to 7-3 on the year with a 6-3, 1-6, 2-6 loss to Bueno at number four singles.
 
Borrero fell to Aparicio at number five singles by a score of 4-6, 4-6 while junior Douglas Boe (Vinhedo, Brazil) fell to Elliot Carnello by a score of 6-7(4), 4-6 at number six singles.
 
West Florida will next face Embry Riddle on Wednesday, March 16 at 2 p.m. The Argos will then face Florida Southern on Friday, March 18 at 2 p.m. before wrapping up the road trip on Saturday, March 19 against No. 26 Rollins at 10 a.m.
