PENSACOLA, Fla.  – It took 11 innings at Jim Spooner Field, but the University of West Florida baseball team fell to the Embry-Riddle Eagles 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon.

UWF now stands at 14-10 on the year, while Embry-Riddle improves to 17-8 before heading back into Sunshine State Conference play this weekend.

Embry-Riddle scraped together a run in the second and another run in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. The Argonauts were quick to respond, as in bottom of the fifth Nic Strasser hit an RBI single down the right field line to score Kyle Hamner and cut ERAU's lead to 2-1. After Strasser stole second base, Alex Greene was able to convert on the RBI opportunity by hitting a hard liner back up the middle and score Strasser to knot the score at 2-2.

Anthony Mazzurco made his third start of the season after going 4.2 innings and allowing two earned runs and seven hits. Mazzurco recorded four strikeouts while walking two batters.

Garrett Peek provided an excellent 2.1 innings of relief, fanning three batters and allowing just one hit. Jarrod Petree went 3.1 innings and allowed one run on three hits while striking out four.

In the top of the 11th, Embry-Riddle first basemen Matt Jacobs hit a go-ahead home run to left field.

Colby Brown was able to record a single in the bottom half of the 11th, but he was left on base as Corey Tufts, ERAU's ace who was making his first relief appearance of the season, was able to retire the next two Argonaut hitters and seal the win for the Eagles.

UWF, who tallied 14 hits on the afternoon, suffered from leaving 11 runners on base for the game.

Strasser and Justin Ambrosino led the West Florida lineup each posting 3-for-5 days at the plate. Ladeavon Matthews and Kyle Hamner each recorded two hits as Matthews went 2-for-5 and Hamner went 2-for-4.

Hamner extends his hitting streak to 11, while Greene extended his on-base streak to 20 games. Greene's current streak is the longest on-base streak for UWF since Austin Southall posted a 25-game streak in 2014.

UWF gets back into conference play, as the Argonauts are set to host West Georgia this weekend.  Action between the Argonauts and Wolves starts at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday for a doubleheader and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday for a single game.
