BOX SCORE PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 4-ranked University of West Florida men's tennis team fell to the No. 10-ranked Georgia College Bobcats at home on Wednesday afternoon. West Florida (11-3, 5-0 GSC) drops to 2-2 on the year against nationally ranked opponents en route to the team's first home loss of the year.
Senior
Pablo Borrero (Pereira, Colombia) and junior
Pablo Tellez (Bogota, Columbia) improved to 7-0 on the year by defeating Pedro Ecenarro and Vincent Castermans 9-8 at number three doubles.
The No. 5-ranked doubles team of senior
Kenny Brasil (Apucarana, Brazil) and junior Aley Peyrot (Castelnaudary, France) fell to the Southeast Region's No. 8-ranked doubles team of Yannick Hass and Christian Graff by a score of 2-8 at number one doubles. Juniors
Douglas Boe (Vinhedo, Brazil) and
Pedro Roese (Novo Hamburgo, Brazil) fell to Jannik Kumbier and Taylor Powell 6-8 at number two doubles.
No. 11 Peyrot improved to 11-1 on the year by defeating No. 47 Kumbier 6-3, 6-4 at number two singles. The junior is now 2-1 against nationally ranked opponents and 3-1 against regionally ranked opponents.
No. 22 Brasil defeated Powell 6-3, 6-1 at number three singles while Borrero defeated Ecenarro 6-3, 6-4 at number four singles.
Senior
Juan Pablo Boada (La Paz, Bolivia) fell to No. 14 Hass at number one singles by a score of 3-6, 4-6 while sophomore
Sebastian Sanchez (Bogota, Colombia) fell to Graff 7-6, 5-7, 4-6 at number five singles.
Roese fought hard at number six singles to push the match to a third-set tiebreaker but would go on to fall to Castermans 6-7, 7-5, 6-7 (5-7) at number six singles
West Florida will next face Gulf South Conference rival No. 8 Valdosta State on Friday, March 25 at Noon.
