PENSACOLA, Fla. –  The program's longest winning streak since 2014 for the University of West Florida baseball team came to an end on Sunday afternoon, as the Argonauts dropped a 3-0 decision to the University of West Alabama Tigers.

West Florida (26-12, 18-6 GSC) starter JT Granat (6-3) made his 10th start of the 2016 season and settled down nicely after allowing two first-inning runs. During his last 4.1 innings of work, Granat allowed just three hits. Granat finished his outing with 5.1 innings pitched, two earned runs, six hits, two walks and a strikeout.

West Alabama (27-11, 16-8 GSC) starter Josh Jones (5-0) made just his second Gulf South Conference appearance of the season and tossed a gem, throwing eight shutout innings and allowing just six UWF hits. UWA reliever Brandon Pennington earned his first save of the season after throwing a scoreless ninth inning.

The Argos were able to threaten late, as Jean Figueroa hit a two-out double in the ninth inning. The next batter in Matt Sullivan was able to reach on a throwing error by UWA third basemen Mitch Holgate, however Pennington was able to get Lopez to fly out on a deep fly ball to centerfield and secure UWA's 3-0 victory.

The loss for UWF snaps a 12-game winning streak, while the win for UWA snaps a six-game losing skid.

UWF struck out only twice in the game, but just four of the starting nine recorded a base hit in the contest. Ladeavon Matthews and Jean Figueroa led the team with two hits each.

Sean Kennedy hurled 2.1 innings of relief, allowing one earned run on four hits with two strikeouts. Dorsey tossed a scoreless inning for UWF and Troy Brown retired the only batter he faced to wrap things up for the UWF bullpen.

With yesterday's pair of wins, West Florida continues its streak of nine straight regular season GSC series won.

UWF now sits in a tie for first place in the GSC, as Delta State topped Shorter 9-0 earlier today. The two teams will battle for first place in Cleveland, Mississippi next weekend.

Before its series with Delta State, West Florida will welcome North Georgia for a two-game midweek series beginning on Tuesday. First pitch from Jim Spooner Field on Tuesday is slated for 6:00 p.m.
