MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The UWF men's and women's tennis teams will open play in the GSC Championships Thursday at the O'Connor Tennis Center at Lagoon Park.
The top-seeded men will face No. 8 seed Alabama Huntsville (2-18, 1-8) at 9:00 a.m. and the top-seeded women will face No. 8 Lee (16-9, 3-7) at 1:30 p.m.
The UWF men's team (16-5, 9-0) will be aiming for its fifth-consecutive conference title this weekend and look to extend its 49-match winning streak against conference opponents. The Argonauts have won 12 GSC titles, including nine in 17 seasons under head coach
Derrick Racine.
Additionally, UWF debuted at No. 2 in the first edition of the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis South Regional Rankings. UWF is currently ranked third in the latest ITA National Rankings.
The UWF women's team (19-5, 10-0) will also be looking to continue its stranglehold on the conference, having won the last five titles and brings a 65-match winning streak against GSC competition to Montgomery. The Argos have won 15 of 21 tourney crowns since joining the league.
On the women's side, UWF is No. 5 in the South Regional Rankings and No. 6 in the country.
