JACKSON, Tenn. – With 14 hits and a dominating performance by starting pitcher JT Granat, the University of West Florida baseball team was able to clinch its 10th consecutive win after defeating the Union University Bulldogs by a score of 7-2 on Sunday afternoon.

The win improves UWF's record to 24-11 overall, while owning a 16-5 GSC record. Union falls under .500 at 15-16, while possessing an 8-12 league mark.

West Florida starting pitcher JT Granat continued his recent dominance, as the righty did not surrender a run in his first 6.2 innings pitched on Sunday afternoon. Granat, who entered the game not allowing a run in his last 15.1 innings pitched, extended that streak to 21 innings before it was snapped by a Union run in the seventh inning. The Pensacola native finished his outing with seven innings pitched, allowing just one run on four hits, while striking out a UWF season-best eight batters and walking none.

UWF and UU would battle in a scoreless tie until the top of the fourth, when the Argonauts were able to record back-to-back RBI singles off the bats of Robert Lopez and Ladeavon Matthews for a 2-0 lead. Two innings later, Lopez continued his red-hot weekend by hitting an RBI triple to the left-centerfield gap to score Colby Brown.

Union chipped away with a run in the seventh, before Matthews was able to record his second RBI of the day in the eighth with an RBI single to right.

To wrap things up for UWF offensively, Michael Savas added some insurance with a bases-clearing double in the ninth to score three runs and create a 7-2 Argonaut lead.

Jarrod Petree and Steve McClellan each tossed an inning of relief on the mound. Petree tossed a 1-2-3 eighth inning, while McClellan surrendered just one hit in the ninth inning.

Justin Ambrosino recorded his sixth-consecutive game with multiple hits, as the junior first basemen went 3-for-5 with a double on Sunday. In his last six games, Ambrosino is hitting .607 (17-for-28) with a team-high two doubles and five RBI. Ambrosino scored three of UWF's seven runs in its sweep-clinching victory.

Kyle Hamner extended his hitting streak to 21 games with a single in the fourth. Hamner's hitting streak now is now tied with Josh Loosier (2005-06) for the second longest streak in program history. Hamner sits eight games behind the program's leader Stephen Jackson, who posted a 29-game streak in 1998.

Matthews also had a three-hit performance on Sunday, going 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Savas led the team with three RBIs, while Lopez turned in a 2-for-5 showing with two RBIs and a triple. John Price continued his successful weekend as the junior outfielder went 2-for-5 on the day.

West Florida now looks towards a pivotal GSC series against West Alabama at home next weekend. As of Sunday night, the Argonauts sit in a tie for first place in the conference with Delta State, while West Alabama sits closely behind at just one game back. Saturday's doubleheader against the Tigers is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Jim Spooner Field.
