TAMPA, Fla. - The University of West Florida baseball team advanced to the second round of the NCAA South Regional after defeating Claflin University 17-1 yesterday. The Argos are set to meet the No. 3-seeded Nova Southeastern University Sharks. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET, however with a rain delay in this morning's game between West Georgia and Claflin could have UWF and NSU's start time pushed back. JT Granat is expected to start on the mound for the Argonauts.

For the 10th time this season, UWF scored more than 10 runs in a single game… West Florida had just three 10+ run games in 2015… UWF's 10, 10-run games is the most in a single season since the Argonauts posted 12 10-run games in 2013.
 
Using The Long Ball
For the third time this season, UWF posted three home runs in a single game… UWF posted two three-homer games within the first three games of the 2016 season, but have not had one since February 7.

Dorsey Earns First Career Postseason Win
After allowing a leadoff hit in the first, Gray Dorsey settled into his outing by retiring 17 consecutive batters to take his outing into the sixth inning… The made just the third start of his career and first career postseason appearance in yesterday's ballgame… Dorsey finished with 6 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB and 4 K… Dorsey now owns a 1.04 ERA over 26 innings pitched this year.
 
Take But No Give
West Florida drew a season-high 13 walks yesterday against Claflin, the most walks in a single game for the Argonauts since walking 13 times against Miles on March 7, 2013… UWF did not allow a walk yesterday against the Panthers, and now have not allowed more than one walk in any of its last eight games… UWF has allowed 13 walks in its last 16 games (over a month-long span).
 
Lopez Extends Streak
Freshman Robert Lopez extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a 2-for-6 performance against Claflin yesterday… It marks back-to-back seasons in which the Argonauts have had freshmen post 11-game hitting streaks, as Nic Strasser had an 11-game streak in 2015… Strasser's 11-game streak was the longest of the 2015 season for the Argonauts… Lopez is hitting .372 with four HR, 19 RBI with a team-best .767 slugging percentage during his current hitting streak.

Granat Ready For South Regional Debut
D2CCA All-South Region First Team Selection JT Granat is set to make the start against the Sharks tonight… Owns the fourth best ERA in South Region at 2.38… Owns a 1.23 ERA in his last seven starts… Owns a 5.54 ERA in the first inning, however owns a 1.68 ERA in the second inning and beyond… Owns perfect 6-0 record in road games with 2.72 ERA, .225 B/AVG… Surrendering team-low .200 batting average to leadoff hitters.
 
Vs.  Nationally Ranked Opponents
The No. 10-nationally ranked Argonauts are set to face No. 17-ranked Nova Southeastern in the second round… UWF is 9-6 against nationally ranked opponents this season and hitting .296 as a team in those 15 games… The Argos own a 3.21 ERA against the nation's top 25… Kyle Hamner enters the game with a .408 batting average against nationally ranked opponents, while Jarrod Petree leads the pitching staff with a 1.08 ERA over six appearances and 16.2 innings pitched.
 
Series History vs. Nova Southeastern
The second-round matchup with the Nova Southeastern University Sharks will be the second time in program history that West Florida and Nova Southeastern meet, with the first meeting coming in the 2012 NCAA DII South Regional in Tampa… Nova Southeastern went on to beat the Argonauts, 5-2.
