UWF Tennis Teams Earn Invitations To NCAA Tournament; Argo Men Will Host South Regional

The men's team will host home matches on Saturday and Sunday this weekend

INDIANAPOLIS – The UWF men's and women's tennis teams each earned a berth in the 2017 NCAA Division II Tennis Championship South Regionals, as announced by the organization Tuesday night. The UWF men were the top overall seed and will host a 4-team regional beginning Saturday at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex on campus.
 
The UWF men will be the No. 1 seed in the South I Regional and play No. 8 seed Benedict in a first round match on Saturday, April 29 at 10:00 a.m. Central time. No. 4 Lynn and No. 5 Saint Leo will play the other first round match at 1:00 p.m. at UWF. The winners of the two matches will face each other on Sunday, April 30 at 10:00 a.m. Admission is free to all three matches.
 
The Argonauts are 26-1 on the year after sweeping the Gulf South Conference Tournament while riding a 20-match win streak.UWF is making its 21st-consecuitve NCAA appearance, which includes national championships in 2004, 2005 and 2014.
 
On the women's side, UWF (23-6) earned the GSC automatic bid and is the No. 3 seed in the South II Regional, which will be hosted by Lynn in Boca Raton, Fla. UWF is ranked No. 7 in the latest Oracle/ITA Division II Ranking.
 
The Argonauts will face No. 6 seed Benedict on Monday, May 1 at 10:00 a.m. Eastern time. The winner will advance to play top-seeded and No. 2 ranked Lynn (20-2) on Tuesday, May 2 at 10:00 a.m. 
 
The UWF women's team has also appeared in all 21 NCAA tournaments since joining the association prior to the 1996-97 season. The team has advanced to the national finals site 11 times.
 
The 16 men's and 16 women's winners of the regional tournaments will advance to the NCAA DII Men's and Women's Tennis Championships in Altamonte Springs, Fla., May 9-13.
