ORLANDO, Fla. – The top ranked UWF Men's Tennis Team remained undefeated with a 5-4 win over Rollins under the lights at the USTA National Campus Friday.
In the doubles Nicholas Springer and Alfonso Castellano were the first to get on the board for the Argos, dominating Melhaoui and Gezer 8-3 on court two. The Rollins pair DeFraia and Nicolas countered by defeating Serdar Bojedjiev and Nicolas Lecoutre 8-5. Attention shifted to court three, Lucas Sanchez and Robin Rafaitin overcame a 4-6 deficiency to overcome Kirberg and Ferl 8-6.
In the singles, No. 23 ranked Alfonso Castellano and Juan Motta stormed past their opponents, only dropping a combined five games in each of their matches. Only one more victory was needed for the Argos to secure match win. The Tars refused to concede defeat, and picked up wins on courts one and two.
No. 40 LeCoutre and Juan Cabrera were the two remaining Argos left on the court, and they were both forced into third sets by their opponents. Despite losing the first set 4-6, Cabrera remained solid and picked up a 6-4 second set. Cabrera raced away with the third set with a score of 6-1. After clenching the match, No. 40 LeCoutre suffered a rough 3-6, 7-6, 6-3 loss to Sami Kirberg.
Up next for the Argos is a trip to Daytona Beach, where they will take on Embry-Riddle at 11 a.m. ET.
