LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 1 UWF Men's Tennis Team (7-1) concludes a busy weekend with a victory as they take down Florida Southern College (0-4) 7-2 at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
The Argos quickly bounced back from the previous day, capturing all three of the doubles points. Both Alfonso Castellano and Nicholas Springer as well as Nicolas Lecoutre and Robin Rafaitin overcame their opponents 8-4 on courts two and three, respectively. On the top court, Serdar Bojedjiev and Lucas Sanchez dug themselves out of a 4-6 hole to rally past Matsuyama and Alvarez-Hevia 9-8 (4).
After securing each of the doubles points, the men continued to stretch their lead from the singles matches. First off was Rafaitin from court five, quickly dispatching Vossgaetter 6-2, 6-3.
The clinching match came from court four as No. 23 Alfonso Castellano closed out a grueling 6-4, 7-5 encounter with Becker. The Mocs scored their two points from courts one and three in tight third set tiebreakers. On court two, Sanchez was tested in the second set, but came through and won 6-2, 7-5 against Alvarez-Hevia. Gerard Rodriguez picked up his first victory as an Argo on court six against Soderlund with a score of 6-3, 7-6 (4).
The UWF Men's Tennis Team will head back to Pensacola and rest up for their first home match of the season on Saturday, March 3. Play is set to begin at 1pm CT.
