VALDOSTA, Ga. – Golf playoffs typically only go one or two holes, maybe three or four. But not eight. That's how long it took UWF's Chandler Blanchet to emerge victorious as he collected his second-consecutive individual title overall while defending his crown at the Southeastern Collegiate Tuesday.
 
The senior ended the 54-hole event with a 64-72-74=210 total and tied with Florida Southern's John VanDerLaan. The duo played the 18th hole three times, then went to Nos. 10, 11 and 17 before heading back to 18 once again. On the eighth hole, they played the 417-yard, par 4 first. Blanchet delivered with an eight iron to 15 feet while VanDerLaan put his approach over the green. After the Mocs' player was unable to get up and down, Blanchet 2-putted for the victory.
 
The Gainesville, Florida product now has 11 first-place finishes in his career, four more than Orjan Larsen had during his time in Pensacola from 1997-2000.
 
No. 1 UWF finished second in the team standings after a final round 294 led to a 5-over-par 869 total, just one shot back of No. 11 Newberry, who shared the second round lead with the Argonauts. No. 5 Florida Tech was a stroke behind UWF at 870.
 
Senior Henry Westmoreland IV's 2-under-par 70 was one of just four subpar rounds on the day and allowed him to climb three spots into fourth place overall with a 3-under-par 213 tourney total. It marked his third top-3 finish of the season.
 
Junior Christian Bosso tied for 23rd with a 221 after a final round 75. Classmate Julian Otero also ended the week at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club with a 75, placing him in a tie for 39th at 225. Fellow junior Jacob Huizinga concluded his tournament in 89th place at 243.
 
UWF will return to action next Monday and Tuesday when it participates in the Bobcat Invitational, hosted by Georgia College in Eatonton, Georgia at the Golf Club at Cuscowilla.
