PENSACOLA, Fla. – The top-ranked UWF men's tennis team split a pair of matches at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex Saturday, defeating Illinois Springfield, 6-1, before falling to seventh-ranked Saint Leo, 5-4, in a marathon contest.

After dispatching the Stars in a match delayed an hour by morning rain showers, the Argonauts played host to a very tough South region opponent in SLU.

The matchup didn't disappoint, with three of the singles contests going the distance.

UWF grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles play, collecting wins at the Nos. 1 and 3 positions following a SLU win at No. 2 to open the match.

In singles action, the Lions scored points at the top three positions to regain the lead. 15th-ranked Vincent Suillerot defeated 40th-ranked
Nicolas Lecoutre, 6-3, 6-4 on court two.
The rematch of the ITA regional final from the fall went to the Lions' No. 3 ranked Thomas Grinberg for the second time as he bested No. 7
Serdar Bojadjiev, 6-4, 6-4.
SLU extended the lead to 4-2 when Jaime Bueno recorded a 6-3, 7-5, win over
Lucas Sanchez at the third spot.

UWF closed to within 4-3 after
Juan Cabrera came from a set down at No. 5 to defeat Francisco Aparicio, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Cabrera remained unbeaten in singles on the year, improving to 11-0 and 7-0 at the fifth ladder position.

With the final two matches deep into their third sets, the Lions secured the victory at the No. 4 spot when Bruno Babic won the final three games in a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over 23rd-ranked

Robin Rafaitin outlasted Willem van den Akker, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-6 (2) to close out the 4 hour, 30-minute contest.

It marked the first time this season that he Argos won at least two doubles matches and lost the overall match.

UWF moved to 10-2 on the season, while SLU remained perfect at 9-0. The Argos will conclude their weekend with a Sunday home contest against Ouachita Baptist at 1:00 p.m.
