PENSACOLA, Fla. – The visiting Georgia College Bobcats (7-5) were no match for the No. 12 University of West Florida Argos (12-2) as UWF dominated 6-1 at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
The Argonauts jumped out to a commanding lead in doubles with a win on every court. On court one, No. 50 ranked duo Bojedjiev and Sanchez eliminated Kumbier and Moller 8-5. On courts two and three, both teams left were competing in back and forth battles against their Bobcat opponents. Alfonso Castellano and Nicholas Springer kept their composure under the pressure with Springer delivering a driving volley winner to capture the match 8-6 on court two. To close out the doubles, Nicolas LeCoutre and Juan Cabrerra mustered up enough consistency to squeeze past Caron and Wallace 9-7.
The Argos continued their control over the Georgia College while entering into the singles. Sophomore Cabrerra secured the fourth point of the day after grinding past Wallace 6-4, 6-2 on court five.
The Bobcats refused to surrender easily, and they picked up their first point on court four after Kohn defeated Castellano. The clinching match came both court three and court six, as Sanchez and Rafaitin finished their matches simultaneously. Sanchez dropped just two games in his match, and Rafaitin displayed unrelenting precision to prevail over Caron 6-3, 6-2. All remaining courts were suspended as a result of an agreement to halt play after clinching the match.
The No. 12 Argos will return to their home courts on Saturday to face off against GSC opponent Lee University.
