UWF-VSU MEN'S TENNIS BOX SCORE
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The UWF men's tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss to Valdosta State in the championship match of the Gulf South Conference Tournament at Lagoon Park Tennis Center on Saturday.

Sixth-ranked UWF (23-3) fell behind after doubles play and lost three of four singles matches to 11th-ranked VSU (18-3). The teams have been the most dominant duo in the GSC over the past 25 years, with the Argos having won 13 titles and the Blazers now at 12.

All three doubles matches resulted in an 8-6 final, UWF's lone doubles point came from the No. 3 spot where
Nicolas Lecoutre and
Juan Cabrera evened the team score at 1-1.

In singles action,
Juan Motta brought the teams all square with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Davis Stewart at No. 6. But the Blazers earned their next two points in the form of straight-set wins at Nos. 1 and 4 with tiebreakers in the second set of each match. From there, VSU clinched the win with a 6-4, 7-5 decision at No. 3 when Fernando Rivas outlasted
Lucas Sanchez.

UWF will now wait to see where it will be seeded in the upcoming NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championship. The field will be announced by the NCAA on Tuesday, April 24 with play beginning Monday, April 30.
