PENSACOLA, Fla. - In a few of their final matches of the 2018 regular season, the No. 6 UWF Men's Tennis (18-2, 9-0) won all 18 matches in their GSC showdown with Delta State University (8-4, 5-3) and Christian Brothers University (6-17, 1-8) at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.

After this double-header, UWF have clinched the top position for the GSC Championships held on April 19-21 at the Lagoon Park Tennis Center.

While the Argos have had much success against GSC opponents this season, the Statesmen came prepared to push them to their limits. In the doubles, No. 17 pair Lucas Sanchez and Serdar Bojedjiev breezed past Terrier and Stroppiana 8-2 on court one. The other two matches, on the other hand, did not own such an easy score line. On court three, Juan Cabrera and Nicolas LeCoutre found themselves down an early break against Vice and Strickland. This undefeated duo would not allow for their Statesmen opponents to break this streak, and LeCoutre delivered an unreturnable forehand volley just out of reach to secure the match 9-7. All eyes were then turned to court two where Nicholas Springer and Alfonso Castellano continued to trade back and forth service games with Yamacita and Hildenbrand. Both teams were unable to break their opponents' serve, and a deciding 7-point tiebreaker remained between each team and victory. After saving three match points from the Statemen's rackets, the Argo duo capitalized on their second match point as Springer bombed an ace out wide to finish off a thrilling 9-8 (11-9) victory.

The Statesmen showed signs of deflation after narrowly dropping the doubles points on courts two and three, and the Argos came out strong in singles. Sanchez snatched the first singles point of the day after shutting out Vice 6-0, 6-0 on court three. For the clinch, No. 30 LeCoutre picked up a ranked win after defeating No. 29 Terrier 6-2, 6-4 on court one. The remainder of the matches was won in straight sets by the Argos.

For the second match of the day, the No. 6 Argos faced off against Christian Brothers University, and their success from the afternoon match was transferred to their performance in the evening. The Men swept all three doubles courts, not losing more than two games in each of the matches.

It was the same story for the singles as well, where each Argo produced at least one 6-0 set against their opponent.

The Argos will wrap up their regular season play next weekend as they compete against Hawaii Pacific University on Friday at 10 am CT and Xavier University on Sunday at noon. Both matches will be played at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
