PENSACOLA, Fla.- The No. 4 UWF Men's Tennis (2-0, 1-0) controlled Florida Southern College (0-3) 6-1 and University of Alabama Huntsville (2-1) 7-0 at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex in back to back matches on Saturday.
The Argos hosted their spring season opener in Pensacola, Florida that started off with a delay start due to leftover rain on the courts and turned into a full day of winning.
UWF v. FSC (6-1)
UWF raced to a 1-0 lead after sweeping doubles play. Serdar Bojedjiev and Lucas Sanchez won 6-1 at the No.1 spot, Vitinho Galvao and Igor Cantanhede powered past their opponents 6-2 at the No.2 spot and Juan Cabrera and Gerardo Irarrazabal finished last after a long fought battle winning 6-4.
The Argos quickly rolled into singles and as quickly as they dominated doubles, they did it at singles too. A quick one, two, three finish by nationally ranked No. 8 Bojedjiev, followed by Irarrazabal and then Cabrera who won 6-3, 6-2 clinched the match for the Argos. Spots six, four and five were not far behind in the finish. Pedro Cordeiro won at six 6-3, 6-0 and was followed by another win from Sanchez at No.4 6-2, 6-2. The single win for the Mocs came from the fifth spot where Oscar Sohl beat Robin Rafaitin 6-2, 6-2 in a series of long rallies.
Overall the Argos made quick work of the Mocs and were ready to move onto the Chargers.
UWF v. UAH (7-0)
The West Florida men's tennis team was fired up and ready to keep charging forward with their full day of tennis. The same doubles teams faced Alabama Huntsville's pairs and with wins from spot two (6-1) and three (6-2) fairly smoothly, the No.1 pair Bojedjiev and Sanchez fought though a long battle with Sebastian Rohrbach and Dylan Hall who ended up coming out on top 6-4 giving UWF their only game loss of the match.
Singles play begun shortly after where spots three, six, and four were the first to finish and Rafaitin in the No.4 spot was the game to clinch the match winning 6-2, 7-6 against Chris Miller. The Argos continued to win following them in order of one, five, and two giving them the 7-0 win over the Chargers.
The Argos next match will be next weekend when they hop to three different states every day starting with Montgomery, Alabama on Friday, February 22nd to face Auburn Montgomery, followed by a drive up north to Cleveland, Tennessee to play Lee, and then ending their weekend in Rome, Georgia to play Shorter.
