Argonauts split weekend in California 1-1

UWF will continue spring break road matches in Texas

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The UWF men's tennis team split the weekend in The Golden State of California losing to No. 16 Hawaii Pacific the first day and winning against host school UC San Diego at the Northview Tennis Courts.

No. 4 UWF v. No. 16 HPU

On Saturday the No. 4 Argos played No. 16 Hawaii Pacific and lost 5-2 in a valiant battle. All the singles matches, but one went to three sets making this a long and emotional match.

Starting with doubles, Vitinho Galvao and Igor Cantanhede were the first done losing 6-3 at No. 2, followed by No. 9 Serdar Bojadjiev and Lucas Sanchez losing their tight match against Valentin Masse and Maxime Gayte 7-5. HPU took the doubles point.

In singles, the only match to only play two sets finished first which resulted in Sanchez losing 6-0, 6-3. He was followed by another UWF loss from Gerardo Irarrazabal making it 3-0.

Keeping UWF in the match was No. 34 Juan Motta as he defeated Maxime Gayte 5-7, 6-3, 6-3. The match was then clinched for HPU as No. 8 Serdar Bojadjiev lost to No. 31 Valentin Masse 7-6, 6-7, 6-1 giving Bojadjiev his first singles match loss of the season.

No. 4 UWF v. UCSD

Today, the men played against UCSD, and won 7-0 bouncing back after yesterday's loss. UWF regrouped and went out and took care of business.

In doubles, No. 9 Bojadjiev and Sanchez won their match first 6-2 and then was followed by Galvao and Cantanhede winning at No. 2, 6-4 clinching doubles and leaving the third match unfinished.

Singles is where the Argos went to work winning all the matches. No. 8 Bojadjiev won 6-2, 6-0, followed by Irarrazabal winning his match 6-2, 7-6, and clinched by no one other than Pedro Cordeiro as he defeated Marius Ruh 6-3, 6-2. Juan Motta, Juan Cabrera, and Robin Rafaitin finished off the sweep with three more wins.

The No.4 UWF Men's team will now travel to San Antonio, Texas to continue playing during their spring break. In San Antonio, they will meet up with the UWF women's team. The Argos are set to face No. 9 Indianapolis, No. 24 Cameron, and No. 17 Midwestern State over the course of the upcoming week in Texas.
