PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 9 UWF men's tennis team defeated No. 18 Georgia College in a hard match this afternoon, 4-3.
The Argonauts are now 9-4 on the season and still 5-0 in the GSC.
In doubles, the Argos started off behind losing the doubles point. The third doubles team of Juan Cabrera and Lucas Sanchez started off with a win over Enzo Kohn and Nathan Connelly, 6-3.
From there at No. 2 Igor Cantanhede and Pedro Cordeiro lost 6-4. The point came down to Serdar Bojadjiev and Vitinho Galvao who ended up losing a tough battle to Robin Moller and Matt Rogel, 6-4.
Down 1-0, the Argos went into singles motivated to win. Pedro Cordeiro and Robin Rafaitin were the first two to finish and the first two to win their matches. Cordeiro won 6-0, 6-1, while Rafaitin won 6-0, 6-0.
Following them was Gerardo Irarrazabal losing 6-3, 6-2 to tie the match at 2-2. Nationally ranked No. 4 Bojadjiev finished next with a win over No. 6 Robin Moller 6-2, 6-4. The clinching point came next for the Argos as at the second spot, Juan Cabrera defeated Matt Rogel, 6-4, 7-6. They finished the four spot match where Lucas Sanchez lost 7-5, 3-6, 1-0. Overall the No. 9 Argos won 4-3 over the No. 18 RiverHawks.
The No. 9 UWF Men's team will host a couple more home matches before hitting the road again. Up next for the Argos is St. Mary's, this Saturday, March 23 at 9:30 am CT.
