PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 4 UWF Men's Tennis team leaves Delta State, Christian Brothers and Mississippi College scoreless this weekend at home and on a five match winning streak.
Today the Argonauts had a doubleheader which started off with their match against Christian Brothers at 10:00 am this morning at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex. In the afternoon at 3:00 pm, the Argos didn't have to travel far to play their match against Mississippi College at the Roger Scott Tennis Center.
UWF v. CBU (4-0)
In doubles, West Florida jumped to the lead with two and three doubles winning and leaving one doubles unfinished. At two, Pedro Cordeiro and Robin Rafaitin won over Paul Chabaud and Philip Johnston 6-1 while Juan Cabrera and Lucas Sanchez defeated Marvin Gebhardt and Javier Saez 6-3. Serdar Bojadjiev and Vitinho Galvao's match was left unfinished.
With the lead 1-0, the Argos pushed forward to get three more easy wins. Cabrera was first to win at the number two spot over Saez 6-1, 6-2. Following Cabrera was Rafaitin defeating Johnston 6-1, 6-1.
The clinching point came from Gerardo Irarrazabal at the fourth spot, with his win over Alonso Reid 6-1, 6-1. Â Bojadjiev, Sanchez and Cordeiro's matches were left unfinished. Overall the No. 4 Argos won 4-0 over the Buccaneers.
UWF v. MC (4-0)
To wrap up the weekend, the Argonauts went to the Roger Scott Tennis Center in Pensacola, Fla. to play their match against Mississippi College.
In doubles, West Florida took the wins at one and two doubles and left three doubles unfinished, tied at 5-5. At number two, Pedro Cordeiro and Robin Rafaitin defeated Max Nilges and Shane Samyn 6-1 and at number one, Serdar Bojadjiev and Vitinho Galvao won against Maksym Konovalov and Francois Le Tallec 6-2. Lucas Sanchez and Juan Cabrera's match was left unfinished.
Up 1-0, the Argos continued the sweep with wins at number four, one and three. Rafaitin was first to finish winning 6-1, 6-1. Following him was nationally ranked No. 8 Bojadjiev with his win 6-0, 6-4.
The clinching win came from Gerardo Irarrazabal as he defeated Shane Samyn 6-1, 7-5. The Argonauts are now 17-5 on the season and 9-1 in the GSC.
The No. 4 UWF Men's team will host a couple more home matches before the regular season comes to an end. Up next for the Argos is a home match against Keiser, Thursday, April 18th at 1:00 pm CT.
The following Saturday, April 20th, the Argos will be facing Xavier (LA.) for their Senior Day at 1:00 pm CT.
