PENSACOLA, Fla. – No. 6/19 UWF baseball will close the regular season vs. West Alabama at Jim Spooner Field this weekend. The series starts Friday at 6:00 p.m. and will conclude with a Saturday doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
UWF baseball (30-14, 19-7 GSC) earned its 30th win of the regular season by downing Spring Hill 8-6 Tuesday evening.
Dylan Menhennett finished with three hits and four RBIs.
Saturday will be Senior Day at Jim Spooner Field, as the Argos celebrate a large senior class that has led the program to 30 wins so far this season. The team will honor the contributions of

ARGOS NO. 2 IN FIRST NCAA SOUTH REGION RANKINGS
* UWF baseball checked in at No. 2 in the first official NCAA South Region rankings Wednesday.
* Tampa topped the South Region rankings. Delta State came in at No. 3. Mississippi College, Eckerd, Nova Southeastern, Embry-Riddle, Barry, Alabama Huntsville and Rollins rounded out the South Region top 10.
* UWF is ranked No. 6 in the latest iteration of the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II poll. The team is No. 19 in the latest edition of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association national and No. 3 in the latest NCBWA South Region poll.
* The South Regional begins May 16 on the home campuses of the top two seeds. The Super Regional, hosted by the top remaining seed, kicks off May 24. The NCAA Div. II National Championship is slated for June 1-8 in Cary, N.C.
TIGHT RACE FOR FIRST PLACE IN THE GSC
* The Argos are currently tied with Mississippi College (27-13, 19-5 GSC) for most wins in the GSC. Second-place UWF sits one game back of Mississippi College for the conference lead. The Choctaws take on Delta State (31-10, 18-8 GSC) this weekend.
* All three teams have clinched conference playoff berths, and all three have a mathematical chance of winning the GSC regular season crown.

SCOUTING WEST ALABAMA
* West Alabama checks into the weekend at 22-19 overall. The team is 9-15 in conference play. The Tigers have lost seven in a row.
* UWA is fifth in the conference with a .279 team batting average. They are eighth with a 5.15 team ERA. They are eighth with a .958 team fielding percentage.
* Trevor Smeeton is ninth in the conference with 54 hits. Cole Waites is third in the conference in opponent batting average at .181.
* UWF is 26-21 vs. UWA since 2006. The Argos 11-7 at home vs. the Tigers in that span.
