VALDOSTA, Ga. – The seventh-ranked UWF men's tennis team defeated 10th-ranked Rollins College and 17th-ranked Valdosta State over the last two days at the VSU Tennis Courts to advance to the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championship Round of 16.
This will be UWF's 17th appearance at the NCAA Championships and the sixth time in the last eight years. The Argonauts are now 22-6 on the season.
The Argonauts went on to breeze past Rollins College on Saturday afternoon to make it to today's match against Valdosta State.
SUNDAY:Â UWF vs. VSU (4-2)
Going into today's match, the Argos were prepared for their rematch against VSU where they won the GSC Championship title 4-2 just the week before against West Florida. Today, the Argos flipped the script and won the NCAA DII South Region Championship.
Starting with doubles, the Blazers were first to score winning at the two spot over Pedro Cordeiro and Juan Cabrera. UWF was quick to answer with Juan Cabrera and Lucas Sanchez  defeating Xavi Pineda and Robert Cizek 6-3. The doubles clinching point came down to the one spot where duo Serdar Bojadjiev and Vitinho Galvao fell to Yohan Nguyen and Axel Holm 6-4.
Down 1-0, the Argos had to come out and take over singles. VSU was able to go up 2-0 after winning at three singles where Yohan Nguyen won over Lucas Sanchez 7-5, 6-3. That was the Blazers last win of the day.
The Argos first win came from Pedro Cordeiro winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 at six. Following Cordeiro was  #74 Juan Cabrera as he defeated Florian Simbozel in three sets 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Robin Rafaitin's win over #30 Xavi Pineda 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 put the Argos in the lead 3-2 in the match.
The two remaining matches were at one and five and it was a fight to see who would finish on top first. Battling at one was #5 Serdar Bojadjiev against  #14 Jordi Mas. At the five spot, #41 Juan Motta was playing against Axel Holm.
With both matches in their third set, it was #5 Serdar Bojadjiev who was able to defeat #14 Jordi Mas  6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3 to clinch the South Region Championship for the Argonauts.
The Argos are now on their way into the round of 16 in the NCAA DII Championships in Altamonte Springs, Fla. 2017 was the last time the Argos were in the NCAA DII Championship tournament where they won their fourth National Championship Title with a 5-2 win over Barry.

All four titles – 2004, 2005, 2014, and 2017 – came when the championship was played at Sanlando Park. The Argonauts are 19-2 all-time at the facility, which has hosted the event nine times and 9-4 in the finals.
This years 2019 NCAA DII National Championships will start on Tuesday, May 21 through Saturday, May 25 in Altamonte Springs, Fla. The seeding for the tournament will come out later this week.
