ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - The No. 7 ranked UWF men's tennis team's season comes to an end in the NCAA DII Quarterfinals at Nationals. The Argos faced off against No. 1 Barry and the Buccaneers came out on top today 4-0 and will head onto the NCAA DII Men's Tennis Semifinals to face Hawaii Pacific.
The Argos were head-to-head with the Buccs in doubles, taking the lead early in all the matches. As they continued, three doubles finished first with Carlos Gomez and Vivien Versier defeating Lucas Sanchez and Juan Cabrera 6-2.
Following them was a well fought battle at two doubles where Juan Motta and Pedro Cordeiro lost 6-3 to Alejandro Gallego and Filip Zupancic No. 25 doubles duo Serdar Bojadjiev and Vitinho Galvao's match was left unfinished as they were winning 5-2 over #7 Pierre Montrieul and Blake Bayldon.
In singles, Barry won at five, three, then six to win the match. Finishing first was five singles where Pedro Cordeiro lost 6-0, 6-1 to #75 Vivien Versier. Following him was Lucas Sanchez who lost to #29 Carlos Gomez 6-4, 6-2. For the clinching win for Barry, #46 Daniel Ventura defeated Vitinho Galvao 6-4, 6-1.
The Argos end their season ranked No. 7 in the latest Oracle/ITA National DII rankings. Serdar Bojadjiev is ranked No. 5 in singles, followed by Juan Motta at No. 41 and Juan Cabrera at No. 74. Doubles duo Serdar Bojadjiev and Vitinho Galvao end ranked No. 25 in the latest rankings after being previously ranked No. 46 the week before.
This is the Argos third consecutive season with a 20 plus winning record and their fourth Quarterfinals finish under Head Coach Derrick Racine. The Argos have made it to the NCAA Tournament six time out of the past 10 years.
