PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida's Men's and Women's Tennis teams have announced today their schedules for the upcoming 2021 Spring season. Each team will face a very competitive conference and nonconference slate including each competing in the ITA Division II National Indoor Championship in Oklahoma City.
Both teams will begin their respective seasons the second weekend in February against Flagler College in a neutral site matchup in Valdosta, Georgia. From here, each team will jump right into conference play facing Auburn Montgomery on February 19, Lee on February 20, and Shorter on February 21 all of which come on the road.
After a short break, both teams will travel to Oklahoma City to play in the prestigious ITA National Team Indoor Championship which spans from February 26-28 and features eight of the top Division II Men's and Women's programs in the nation. This will be the second time the men have competed in this championship and the first time the women have competed in this championship's short two-year history.
March marks the start of a lengthy home stretch for both teams with the Men playing seven consecutive matches at home and the Women playing six. Home matches will start on March 2 when each team squares off with conference opponent West Alabama and conclude on March 25 against Montevallo.
During this stretch, both the Men and Women will face Keiser University on March 12, Xavier University on March 14, Oklahoma Baptist on March 16, and the University of Indianapolis on March 19. The only variation between the Men's and Women's teams during this stretch comes on March 20 when the men take on the University of Texas at Tyler for the second consecutive season.
To conclude the month of March, both teams will hit the road again to play two conference games on March 27. The day will begin in Cleveland, Tennessee when the Argonauts square off in a neutral site match against Delta State at 8 AM. Once that match concludes, both teams will travel to Memphis, Tennessee to take on Christian Brothers at 6 PM for their second match of the day.
The Men's team will wrap up their regular season in April with an away matchup against Valdosta State on April 3 and a home match against Mississippi College on April 9. The Women's team will also compete against Valdosta State on April 3 and Mississippi College on April 9 but will face West Georgia at home on April 10 to conclude their regular season.
This year's GSC Tournament will be played on April 22-24 in Montgomery, Ala. where the men will look for their fourteenth conference championship and the women their twentieth.
NCAA South Regional Tournament play begins May 8-11 and the National Championships goes from May 18-22 in Surprise, Arizona.
