Pensacola, Fla.- Before heading to their last regular home in Mobile, Ala. tomorrow, West Florida moves up to No. 6 in the NCAA Regional Ranking for Super Region II.
The Argos had an impressive weekend in Mississippi defeating GSC opponents, Delta State and Mississippi College.
West Florida was previously No. 5 in the Gulf South Conference rankings. With both wins this weekend, the Argos moved up to No. 4 in the GSC and Mississippi College went down to No. 5.
This season, the Argonauts have relied on their underclassmen, forwards
Kainan Dos Santos and
Keegan Ancelin, who are both leading the Argos in goals, points, and shots.
The men's soccer team had many new faces coming into this season including many freshmen like
Keegan Ancelin,
Austin Marshick,
Jack Patching, and
Keegan Lynch. These players have been a key asset to this Argo team.
The defense had been consistent this year with help from
Lucas Barankiewicz,
Elijah Howe,
Austin Marshick, and Caue Noveas. This Argo defense had only allowed 1.29 goals per game. Each of these team members have started and played in all fourteen of the regular season games.
Senior goalkeeper
Jihad Gomes leads the Argos with 30 saves and 1.35 GAA. Gomes has accumulated 869 minutes of play and has a GA of 13.
This matchup against Spring Hill tomorrow will determine whether the Argos will host their first playoff game.
