NOTES
STATS | VIDEO

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida softball team continues its homestand with a doubleheader against Spring Hill on Wednesday, beginning at 2 pm.

Both games will be streamed live and will feature live stats. Links for both the live video and live stats can be found above or at GoArgos.com.

Additionally, UWF will now host Alabama Huntsville in a weekend series on Saturday and Sunday. The doubleheader on Saturday will begin at 1 pm, as will the series finale on Sunday. The series was originally scheduled to be in Huntsville but was moved due to heavy rain in the forecast in Huntsville.

University of West Florida athletics has increased attendance to 25 percent capacity for all softball home games at the UWF Softball Complex. Each game is first come, first serve to the general public. A set number of tickets will be held aside for Argonaut Athletic Club Booster members. AAC members can collect their tickets at the ticket window on gameday with their booster club card. Tickets are $7 for general admission, $5 for seniors, military members, and visiting students, and free for UWF students, UWF faculty and staff, and children under 6 years old.

Gates will open 60 minutes prior to first pitch. Tailgating in the parking lot is not allowed, and, as a reminder, pets are not allowed. Face coverings and at least six feet of social distancing will be required by spectators and staff at the UWF Softball Complex. All other COVID-19 visitor compliance guidelines must be followed.

SCOUTING SPRING HILL
Spring Hill enters the doubleheader on a four-game winning streak with a 4-2 overall record. After dropping games against Columbus State and Auburn Montgomery in their opening weekend, the Badgers swept both Mobile and Xavier (La.) over the weekend.

SHC returns some names that Argonaut fans may remember from previous seasons, in Delaney Thomas, Hannah Fillmore, and pitcher Hannah Brenton.

UWF is 16-4 against Spring Hill dating back to 2014 and has won 13 head-to-head matchups in a row. The teams will face off again this year -- on March 9 in Mobile.

ABOUT LAST WEEK
West Florida started Gulf South Conference action with a bang over the weekend, taking thrilling wins over West Alabama in a sweep to start league action. UWF is one of four teams in the GSC to start conference play with a sweep -- along with Valdosta State, West Georgia, and Lee.

The bats were the story for West Florida over the weekend, as the team hit .388 and scored more than eight runs per game. The Argonauts also hit seven home runs and eight doubles, walked more than they struck out, and overcame late deficits in each game of Saturday's doubleheader.

Right fielder Courtney McLellan hit a team-high .556 over the weekend with a pair of doubles. Shortstop Mika Garcia hit .545 with two home runs, seven RBIs, and a 1.182 slugging percentage during the series, and Teala Howard went 5-for-10 with five runs scored. Kara Wilson drove in six runs, with three of her four hits going for extra bases.

The Argonauts also got four shutout innings of relief from Kelsey Sweatt, who earned two saves on Saturday. She struck out three and allowed just two hits in those four innings, and she is one of only two pitchers in the GSC with multiple saves.

COURTNEY MCLELLAN IS HITTING VERY WELL
Courtney McLellan's strong weekend was nothing new for the senior from Bradenton, Florida, and it propelled her to the team lead in batting (.455). She hit .500 in the season's opening weekend, with a double, a triple, and three RBIs, and she has reached base in eight of nine games this year. In her last six games, she has hit .467 (7-for-15) with two doubles. Her opening weekend earned her GSC Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career.

McLellan now leads the team in batting (.455) and doubles (3), while ranking second in hits (10), and third in slugging (.682) and on-base percentage (.478). She's also a career .346 hitter at the UWF Softball Complex, with a .523 slugging percentage at home.

WE ARE SLUGGING
There was a major power surge at the UWF Softball Complex over the weekend. West Florida hit seven home runs in the series against West Alabama, while slugging .750 as a team and adding eight doubles. UWF's team slugging percentage went up more than 100 points during the series, up to .545 for the year. UWF was 33rd in Division II in slugging before the weekend series against UWA -- their .545 team mark now would put them up to 12th in the country.

And while UWF has hit for power in the past, it does not usually look quite like this. Of course the season is young and things will change, but UWF's .545 slugging percentage would be the highest single-season mark for the program since joining Division II.
