West Florida Ranked 13th By Collegiate Baseball

Argos coming off 3-1 week

TUCSON, Ariz. - The UWF Baseball Team checks in at number 13 in the latest Collegiate Baseball Poll, as announced by the organization on Monday afternoon.

This is the highest the team has been ranked since they were tabbed as the 22nd best team in all of Division II, going into the 2020 season.  West Florida was also chosen as the 15th best team in the most recent NCBWA rankings.

In 2021, the Argos have been simply dominant.  Outscoring opponents by a total of 128 to 68, UWF has relied on strong pitching and strong hitting to get off to a 14-5 start in the early part of the season.  Pitching to a Gulf South Conference-low, 3.30 staff earned run average, the Argonauts have received quality outings from both their starters and relievers.  Ryan Brewer and Evan Floyd, the number one and two starters for UWF, have been two of the more consistent starters in the conference, as both of them rank in the top ten of the conference in ERA, innings pitched and wins.  Floyd leads the GSC with a 1.32 ERA in six starts.  Brendon Case, the GSC saves leader, has been a dynamo out of the 'pen with a 3.18 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 11 innings, while long reliever, Sean Means has been equally effective with a 2.77 ERA in 13 innings of work.

Means earned his second win of the season in Saturday's series clinching win over Auburn Montgomery, throwing 4.2 scoreless innings with five strikeouts.

Offensively, UWF has been led by Dylan Menhennett and Cullan O'Shea.  Menhennett paces the team with 25 hits in 19 starts.  The Biloxi, Mississippi native is also second on the team in runs batted in with 14 to go along with his 34 total bases, also second on the team.  Meanwhile, O'Shea has been a big bat in the Argonaut line-up, leading the squad in home-runs with three as the Argonaut's as a team have had a power surge of late with 10 home runs in their last seven games.  Cullan also is first on UWF with 19 RBI's.

Jason Roberts and Adam Imwalle have provided a spark at the plate for UWF as well with Roberts having 12 RBI's since being inserted into the line-up on February 27th, while Imwalle has a .565 batting average in only 23 at-bats.

West Florida returns to action this Saturday and Sunday at home against conference foe, Christian Brothers.  Saturday's contest will be a double-header at 1 p.m. while the team's will again play on Sunday at 1 p.m. from Jim Spooner Field.
