LIVE SCORING | FRIDAY PAIRINGS
BOWLING GREEN, Fla. – The No. 1 ranked UWF men's golf team suffered through very windy conditions on day one of the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional, posting a 304 on Thursday. The Argonauts are in 15th place.
Play was interrupted for almost an hour as a large rainstorm swept across central Florida. That left behind winds exceeding 25 miles per hour for the remainder of the day.
UWF made it through the front nine at 6-over-par but the back nine proved to be the tougher stretch. Playing the first five on the back side straight into the teeth of the heavy winds, the Argonauts scored at 9-over-par before three birdies on the final two holes helped end the day on a high note.
Alejandro Restrepo and
Elias Haavisto led the squad with 2-over-par 74s, while
Jake DeZoort signed for a 75.
Felipe Garces had a 79 in his first round in a team setting this season and
Carlos Marrero shot 80.
Nova Southeastern has the round one lead with a 289, with Columbus State and Florida Southern two shots back at 291. Georgia Southwestern and Lincoln Memorial are tied for fourth at 294 – 10 strokes ahead of UWF.
The Argos will begin play on Friday off No. 1 at 9:20 a.m. Eastern Time and be paired with LMU and USC Aiken. The final round will be on Saturday with the top four teams advancing to the NCAA Championships.
