PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF football program had six selections voted on to the Division 2 Conference Commissioner's Association All-Super Region Two team as announced by the organization on Thursday.
Offensive linemen
Jacob Bruce and
Dalton Simpler and wide receiver/return specialist
David Durden were First Teamers and linebacker
Will Breland and offensive lineman
Zac Elam were selected to the Second Team.
Bruce, Simpler and Elam have been part of a unit that has been one of the best in the country, paving the way for the Argos potent ground attack while providing time for the passing game to thrive. UWF's starting line has allowed just four sacks in 2022, while ranking seventh in the NCAA in rushing offense (school-record 252.2) and eighth in total offense (466.8). The rushing total is a school record for the second-consecutive season. Simpler, a senior from Freeport, Florida earns the honor as a guard after playing center in 2021. Bruce is a Gainesville, Florida standout who earns his second-consecutive First Team award as a left tackle. Elam has served as the center every game this season after being injured at the position in the second game a year ago. All three players have graded out at over 92 percent for the season. Bruce's First Team All-Region honor a year ago was part of the school-record seven UWF recipients.
Durden earned the First Team nod at both the wide receiver and return specialist spots. He has been the top receiver in the GSC for the past two seasons, leading the region and ranking 21st nationally with 88.5 yards per game. He is also first in the region with receiving yards (976) and touchdown receptions (11). The Midville, Georgia native has four 100-yard receiving games and two more of at least 80 yards. He continues to lead the region in punt returns, averaging 17.7 yards per return which is third in the region. Durden has 1201 all-purpose yards and 111.2 per game.
Breland leads the Argos in tackles with 82, while totaling four tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries and four quarterback hurries. The sophomore from Mobile has been especially strong in the past three games, averaging 10.1 tackles with an interception, a fumble recovery and a hurry.
The first team selections will advance to the All-America ballot with top vote-getters from the other three super regions. The teams are voted on by the nation's NCAA Division II sports information directors.
