PENSACOLA, Fla.- The West Florida Women's Tennis Team will be back in action at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex for matches against Grand Valley and Austin Peay State on Tuesday.
With a 1-4 record to start the season, West Florida is currently ranked twelfth in the nation. The Argonauts are currently 1-1 in Gulf South Conference play after this weekend.
The Argonauts are coming off a busy weekend in Gulf South Conference play beating Montevallo 4-3 on Saturday, but falling to #6 West Alabama 7-0 on Sunday.
Tuesday's match for West Florida will begin the stretch of four matches this week including conference opponent Lee.
Sara Yigin and
Mayumi Saguchi are big contributors to the Argonauts success each playing well from their positions. Yigin and her partner Saguchi won 6-2 in the No. 2 position on Saturday. In singles, Yigin was able to secure the first singles points for the Argos winning her match 7-5, 6-4. Saguchi was victorious in her match 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 3 position.
The Argos played well against #6 West Alabama, but just didn't get the results they wanted. A great effort will be needed throughout the lineup to take down Grand Valley and Austin Peay State.
About Grand Valley: The Lakers come into this match 5-2 on the season with a recent sweep against Spring Hill. The doubles duo Marija Leko and Marily Canellopoulos are 4-3 on the season. The Lakers are also led by Vasileia Griva and Vera Griva in doubles with 3-1 overall record. Samantha Schall is head coach of the Lakers and she is in her second season. Grand Valley is 28-14 in total doubles matches and 14-7 in singles matches.
About Austin Peay: The Governors are coming off an impressive win against Western Kentucky this past weekend. Denise Torrealba helped seal the deal from the No. 1 position for the Governors to win the match 4-3. Austin Peay sits at 1-5 on the season before they play the Argonauts on Tuesday. Ross Brown is in his ninth season as head coach of the Governors.
