VALDOSTA, Ga. –
Patrick Poate was the model of consistency at this week's NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championship, firing three rounds of 2-under-par 70 to finish tied for third place.
Unfortunately for Poate, who made nine birdies and three bogeys across his three rounds, he was called back to the course in a playoff for the final individual qualifying spot for the national tournament, and lost on the first playoff hole.
The Niceville, Florida native completed his first season at UWF following a 4-year career at Florida Atlantic. He now has a 73.58 stroke average following a season-best 210 this week at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.
As a team, UWF shot a 302 in the final round, slipping from seventh to 12th as they posted just their third round over 300 of the season.
Elias Haavisto and
Carlos Marrero both tied for 57th place at 222.
Cameron Bonner and
Felipe Garces matched each other with 226 and a tie for 75th position.
Other than Poate's 2-under-par, no Argo shot better than 77 on Saturday.
