INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- Juan Cabrera of the West Florida Men's Tennis Team earned ITA All-American status after fantastic singles play in the Spring season. Cabrera was not the only Argonaut to earn All-American honors,
Facundo Bermejo and
Tomas Descarrega earned ITA All-American status for their doubles play this season. The UWF Men's Tennis team now has 41 All-American players in program history.
Cabrera served as West Florida's No. 1 player all season, picking up a 17-6 record and remaining undefeated 8-0 against GSC opponents. He is ranked as the No. 8 player in the nation in the final ITA ranking. Against nationally ranked opponents, Cabrera was 2-6 including wins over the No. 6 player and No. 65 player in the nation.
This recognition caps off an extraordinary career for Cabrera in which he brought in numerous awards including First Team All-GSC honors, two-time GSC Player of the Week, and GSC Player of the Year this season.
In doubles, Bermejo and Descarrega were unstoppable this season as the pair went 16-4 overall and 8-1 in conference play from the No. 1 position for the Argonauts. The pair went 3-2 against nationally ranked opponents including wins against the No. 2 pair and No. 5 pair in the nation. To end the season, Bermejo and Descarrega ranked as the No. 5 doubles team in the nation.
In addition to these All-American awards, the final ITA Rankings of the season came out with the Argonauts sitting as the No. 5 team in the country as West Florida went 21-7 on the season and had a perfect 9-0 record in GSC play.
