Box Score CLEVELAND, Miss.- It was once again a dominating performance by the No. 8 West Florida men's tennis team with the Argos sweeping Delta State 6-0 on Sunday morning.
The Argos improve to 4-1 on the season and 3-1 in conference. The Statesmen drop to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
West Florida continued their hot-streak in doubles with
Tomas Descarrega and
Facundo Bermejo winning their match 6-2 as the No. 1 pair. The dynamic duo is 3-0 in doubles on the season.
Bernardo Costa and
Mateo Martinez were victorious from the No. 2 position to secure the lone doubles point for the Argos.
Albin Ekenros and
Adam Svensson's match won their match due to DSU forfeiting from the No. 3 position.
The match moved on into singles with momentum from doubles carrying over from throughout the lineup. Satiago Kearney championed his match 7-6, 6-0 from the No. 3 position. Bermejo won his match in two sets 6-0, 6-1 as the No. 2 in singles. Descarrega was victorious from the No. 1 position 6-2, 6-0 over Emiliano Elizarraraz. The junior is now 3-1 in singles from the No. 1 position on the season.
From the bottom half of the lineup, Costa dominated his match 6-4, 6-3 from the No. 4 position. Joaquin Esteves's match went unfinished from the No. 5 position and Rondon won his match due to DSU's forfeit from the No. 6 position.
"I like the fact that the rest of the team is stepping up, and really starting to jell and play together," said head coach
Derrick Racine. "I feel the team really handled these matches well and took care of business. This is going to prepare us for a super tough schedule as we head into March."
West Florida will have a little less than a week to travel to Valdosta, Ga. to face Lynn on Friday, March 3.
