Men's Tennis Opens GSC Tournament With Match Against Montevallo

The Argos are seeded No. 2 while the Falcons are the No. 7 seed

PENSACOLA, Fla.-
The No. 2 seed West Florida men's tennis team begins the GSC Tournament on Thursday, April 20 against No. 7 seed Montevallo. The contest is set to begin at 2:30 p.m. at the O'Connor Tennis Center in Montgomery, Ala.

Admission will be free for fans attending the match. 

ABOUT UWF
*The 2022 reigning Gulf South Conference Champions won last year's tournament 4-1 against the No. 2 seed Valdosta State making this their 14 GSC Championship as a program.
*This season the Argos are 14-3 overall and 7-2 in conference play. UWF enters the tournament ranked as the No. 5 team in the nation.
*Facundo Bermejo and Tomas Descarrega are the only two Argonauts ranked in the ITA singles ranking. Bermejo comes in ranked No. 17 while Descarrega is ranked No. 36.
*Bermejo and Descarrega are the No. 2 ranked doubles team in the country with a 13-2, 6-1 GSC record as a pair.
*Freshman Sebastian Rondon leads the Argos with 14 singles wins on the season and only two losses from throughout the lineup. Rondon and Bernardo Costa are 5-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play as the No. 2 pair.

SCOUTING THE FALCONS
*Montevallo enters the tournament as the No. 7 seed with an 8-9 overall record and 3-6 GSC record.
*Paul Sobich and Fabricio Soca lead the Falcons with eight singles wins each. Sobich has been playing from throughout the top of the lineup as he is 8-8, 3-5 GSC. Soca is playing from majority the bottom half of the lineup with an 8-7, 3-4 GSC record.
*In doubles, Sobich and his teammate Dylan Kamel are 8-6 overall and 4-3 in conference play as the No. 2 pair. Soca and Philippe Zehender hold a 7-2, 3-3 GSC record from the No. 1 position for the Falcons.
*Last season, the Falcons lost 4-2 against Delta State in the first round of the GSC Tournament.

UWF VS. UM HISTORY
*The Argos have won the past eight matches over the Falcons. In their last matchup, UWF swept UM 7-0 on Saturday, March 18 at home to make for the fourth sweep in series history.
