UWF Heads to UT Tyler for GSC/Lone Star Crossover

Argos Look to Improve Before More Conference Matchups Next Week

PENSACOLA, Fla. - UWF men's tennis (2-3, 1-1 GSC) stays on the road as it heads to Tyler, Texas, for its next three contests, part of the GSC/Lone Star Crossover Tournament hosted by No. 12 UT Tyler.

The Argos head into the event needing some momentum before they restart GSC play next week. They look to improve on their record in this weekend's three contests against foes from the Lone Star Conference.

UWF's weekend slate starts against the host Patriots (4-1), who has a loss to Mississippi College in common with the Argos. The match begins on Friday, March 1, at 10 am. UT Tyler is led by Cris Bizot, in his second season in his second stint in charge of the program. UWF won both of its previous matches against the Patriots, which came in consecutive seasons in Pensacola, resulting in a 6-1 win in 2020 and a 5-0 victory in 2021.

On Saturday, March 2, at 10 am, the Argos take on Cameron at the complex of nearby Tyler Junior College. This weekend is the beginning of the Aggies' 2024 season, their eighth with head coach Josh Cobble. UWF leads the all-time series 4-1, splitting the last two meetings that both came in 2019. Cameron won the regular-season neutral-site matchup in San Antonio before the Argos avenged their lone loss in the series with a 4-0 win in the first round of the National Championship.

Finally, UWF plays Midwestern State (2-1) back at UT Tyler on Sunday, March 3, at 1:30 pm. The Mustangs are in their 14th season being coached by Scott Linn. The Argos lead this series 4-1 as well, but the latest match resulted in their lone setback, a tough 4-3 loss in the same 2019 event in San Antonio.
