PENSACOLA, Fla. - No. 17 UWF men's tennis (8-4, 3-1 GSC) travels to Columbus, Ga., to take on three squads from the Peach State with a match a day from Thursday, March 21, to Saturday, March 23. The Argos will be making up their February 9 match with Shorter, which was called off due to rainfall in Pensacola, on Thursday before taking on two Peach Belt Conference teams that are in the top 20 of the latest ITA Team Rankings in host Columbus State and North Georgia.
Â
At 4 pm ET/3 pm CT on Thursday, UWF again takes on conference rival Shorter (0-6, 0-5 GSC). The Hawks are led by Juan Pablo Selle, in his third season as head coach. UWF boasts a 9-0 all-time mark against Shorter, most recently a 7-0 sweep in Rome, Ga., last season. The lone time the Argos have ever ceded a point to Shorter was in an 8-1 UWF win in 2015.
Â
UWF then steps out of conference play to take on No. 7 Columbus State (9-4, 1-0 GSC) in a true road match at 1 pm ET/12 pm CT. The Cougars are led by Evan Isaacs, a former CSU player who is now in his 25th season as head coach of his alma mater with an all-time overall record of 388-134 and a 128-50 record in conference play, a resume close in nature to UWF head coach
Derrick Racine. The Argos lead the all-time series 8-2 and won the last meeting in Pensacola last season 4-3, as
Santiago Kearney clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles.
Â
The Argos finish up their weekend with a match on Saturday at 1 pm ET/12 pm CT against No. 19 North Georgia (9-2, 1-0 PBC). UNG already owns a win over No. 16 Auburn Montgomery with its lone losses coming to No. 13 Drury and the seventh-ranked team in the NAIA, Tennessee Wesleyan. The Nighthawks are also led by a former member of the program, Kent Norsworthy, now in his 19th season as head coach. This will be the teams' third time facing each other. The Argos won 6-1 in Pensacola last season, two years after falling 4-3 to the Nighthawks in Valdosta, Ga. Â
