VALDOSTA, Ga. – Sophomore Cooper Tendick and freshman TJ Thompson played bogey-free rounds to help No. 14 UWF to a 5-shot lead following the first round of the 2024 Gulf South Conference Championship at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club on Monday.
Tendick shot a 5-under-par 67 which included a 2-inch tap-in birdie on the par 3 17th hole. He had a 2-shot lead over Oliwer Persson-Toiminen of West Georgia and Thompson, both of whom signed for a 69.
Freshman Per Ekelund turned in an even-par 72, while junior Fabian Wennerlof shot 74 and graduate student Nico Lang turned in an 82.
UWF led for most of the day and finished with a 6-under-par 282 to grab the 18-hole lead over No. 9 Lee. Montevallo is third at 293 and Valdosta State is fourth at 294.
UWF, Lee and Montevallo will play together on Tuesday with the first group of those pairings starting off No. 10 at 10:10 a.m. Eastern time.
