Women’s Cross Country Sets Four School Records, Place Three on All-Conference Teams

Argos Finish Fourth As a Team, All Runners Set Personal Record or Season Best

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Argos came to compete at the Gulf South Conference Championships, setting four school records and placing three runners on the GSC All-Conference teams.

All ten runners on the women's cross country team set either a personal record or season best in the effort, coming in fourth overall as a team at Shelby Farms Park

Elyse Carmichael set a new school record as her stellar freshman season continues, running a 21:35.1 in the 6K to place 10th out of 99 runners and become the first Argo to earn first team All-GSC since Kelley Bahn in 2014.

Jessica Chappell and Sydney Orth made Second Team All-GSC with their top-10 school record times. Chappell ran a personal best with the second fastest time in Argo history at 21:38.5 to place 11th. Orth ran a personal best and became the third runner in UWF history to run a sub 22-minute 6K at 21:56.7, placing 19th.

"We ran our best race of the season so far," head coach Caleb Carmichael said. " It wasn't enough to get us to our goal of top 2 but that's just a credit to how good are conference has become. We can take away a lot of confidence from this one and hopefully run just as well at regionals in 2 weeks."

Chloe Rook placed 22nd overall and ran another school record and personal record time in the process, running the sixth fastest time in school history at 22:04.

Madison Sims ran her best race as an Argo, finishing 39th overall and running a 22:44.8, just two seconds outside the top 10 fastest times in program history.

Sierra Howard, Kristen Bouington, Gwen Shamel, and Olivia Noack all set PR's in their championship performance. Howard ran a 23:20.8 to place 48th. Bouington ran a 23:46.7 to finish 56th. Shamel finished 60th at 24:02.1 and Noack finished 70th with a 24:23.7 time.

Julia Alvarez Drago ran a season-best 24:41.7 to cap off the Argo's day at the conference meet.
