Chappell, Carmichael Earn First All-South Region Honors for Argos since 2017

Women’s cross country ends season at NCAA South Regional, Place 7th out of 20

LAKELAND. Fla. – UWF women's cross country showed out at the NCAA DII South Regionals Saturday morning, placing two runners in the top 25 to earn all-region honors and finishing 7th out of 20 as a team.
 
Jessica Chappell and Elyse Carmichael both placed in the top 25 out of 135 runners competing at the meet, becoming the first Argos to earn All-South Region honors for the first time since Renee Cox in 2017. Chappell placed 21st with a final time of 22:20.3. Carmichael finished 25th with a final of 22:31.9. 
 
"We had hoped to walk away from Regionals with a potential national championship berth, but despite a valiant effort from our ladies we came up a bit short," head coach Caleb Carmichael said. "I'm proud of these ladies for an amazing season. We were 10th a year ago and this year 7th, so there's a lot to be proud of."

The 2025 UWF women's cross country team holds 9 out of the 10 fastest times in program history in the 6K, cementing their mark on Argonaut athletic history. 
 
The Argos finished ahead of multiple GSC teams Saturday, including Auburn-Montgomery, Trevecca Nazarene, Christian Brothers, Union, West Alabama, and Valdosta State. Palm Beach Atlantic, Lee and Tampa were the top three team finishers at the regional. The Argos entered the meet as the seventh ranked team in the south region.
 
Sydney Orth finished her sophomore season 33rd with a time of 22:49.8 and the third fastest Argo at the meet. 
 
Chloe Rook placed 38th to finish out her historic senior season with a final time of 23:04.8. Rook ends her career as an Argo with multiple school records in the 6K. 
 
Freshman Madison Sims finished her first season as an Argo by placing 66th and running a 23:48.9. Sophomore Sierra Howard placed 86that 24:50.5. 
 
Ava Baldauf completed her senior season at UWF at the NCAA Regionals, coming back from injury during the season and competing in her final race, placing 106th with a 25:47.7 time.

While the Argos' team as a season is done, Chappell and Carmichael have a chance to earn nationals at-large bids with their performance at Regionals.
